Myron Lagouvardos, from the village Apostoloi in Rethymnon, studied pharmaceutics in Trieste but preferred to permanently live there, because he was charmed by its beauty and multicultural character. He never thought he was going to like being a pharmacist. He preferred to open what was to be a marvellous Cretan restaurant. Many of his cooking ingredients come directly from Crete and they are very popular to his customers, many of whom are famous Italian politicians and artists.
Greece follows him
When Myron refers to his family in Greece his voice is trembling: "My father and mother, the taste of my grandma's food, my sister's sweet face, my nephew's manliness, St. Nouphris's chapel in my village, all these memories will follow me as long as I live. I adore Pericles and roast lamb on the spit. Greece is a lot of great things, the mother of global culture, the homeland of great revolutionists, smells of roast food and olive trees".
It is because of Myron's passion for Greece, that people wonder why he lives abroad. He is one of the millions of Greeks who suffer from deep homesickness. The Greek nation's passion for diffusion and expansion to the rest of the world is always followed by memories of parents.
Myron got married to an Italian scholar, who is a PhD philologist specialising in Byzantine medicine. His wife knew Greek long before she met him, which in his eyes made her look wonderful.
